Chandauli was bifurcated from Varanasi district with Chandauli as district headquarter. In 2003 the diocese decided to open a school in the district headquarter. Fr. Lawrence Mendonca was asked to execute this task. Residing in Ramnagar he worked to find a piece of land and in August 2003 he bought about five acres of land in the vicinity of Chandauli town. In April 2004 he bought another piece of land for an approach road from the irrigation canal to the school campus. In a couple of months boundary wall was built, a tube well was sunk and a culvert on the irrigation canal was built. As the access to the land became feasible to get the materials for construction, foundation stone for the school was laid on January 15, 2005. In a couple of months administrative block and a few class rooms got ready. On April 21, 2005 the school building was blessed and inaugurated by Bishop Patrick D'Souza. Though there were a few children the classes started immediately and was closed for summer vacation. The sisters of Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament (SABS) joined on the staff of the school. On June 30, 2005 Fr. Lawrence started to reside in Chandauli and three sisters too started to reside in the school campus. As there was no place of worship a class room was turned into a chapel and the sisters were accommodated in the staff room. In the beginning there were only four communicants i.e. the celebrant and three sisters. In the meantime some people living close to the town started coming and also the employees of the school. A good number of Khrist Bhaktas too attend the Sunday service. A Church was built in the year 2013. At Sakaldiha in Chandauli parish the Diocese has started Amar Jyoti School for the Blind boys. Sacred Heart Sisters have joined to serve the school. |
