Every year second of January is commemorated by catholic diocese of Varanasi as the “Day for the Specially Abled”. This year on the same date, the 30th anniversary of “day for the Specially Abled” was celebrated with enthusiasm.
On 2nd of January 2016, on the year of mercy, Two thousand four hundred and eighteen especially abled children from thirty institutions along with their attendants and teachers packed the auditorium of Saint John’s School DLW, for the inaugural ceremony. Right reverent Eugene Joseph Bishop of Varanasi inaugurated the cultural events with lighting of the lamp. The Specially Abled with their colorful performances proved that they were no way inferior to the normal people. The audiences were mesmerized with dances, dramas and songs performed by the Specially Abled.
The Specially Abled People, the teachers and staff of the institutions and the volunteers were served breakfast, lunch and time to time refreshments. Two hundred and fifty volunteers rendered their selfless service to make all possible comfort for the Specially Abled.
After the lunch, sports and games were conducted in the School ground. The Specially Abled people participated with sport spirit and proved their ability. In his address to the gathering Bishop Eugene Joseph asked everyone to show concern towards these people as Lord Jesus Christ showed compassion to them.
